Rummy Basics: Learn How to Play Everyone’s Favourite Card Game

Card games are a national passion in India, and rightly so for a country that prides itself on specialized skills. With the surge of the internet, online opportunities for playing all sorts of card games are now literally at your fingertips. The recent past has seen some of the best online rummy sites in India emerge with offerings that could easily make the offline variety obsolete in the future, and that is a real big deal considering how popular rummy is around here!

Whether you count on your luck or not, in this 13 card game, everything depends largely on your gaming skills. If you’ve got good memory though, that is pretty helpful, but the game itself is not Rocket Science. Rummy can be simply described as following a draw-and-discard rule with the aim to eliminate all your playing cards by melding them into runs and/ or sets.

If you’re new to the game, you’re probably wondering what all those words mean, but that’s what we’re here for, read on for a basic know-how on online rummy (which is obviously true for the offline version too).

The game begins as all card games do, of course – with the dealing of cards, in this case 13 to each player. By the way, two can play this game, but you can have up to six on some sites. Players would immediately start working on their cards by arranging them into sets (at least 3 cards of the same value but different suits) or runs (at least 3 consecutive cards from the same suit).

As the game proceeds, it gets more and more interesting as you pick cards, rearrange your cards and discard that card which is least useful to you. What makes the game even greater is you’ve got to be careful not to ply your opponents with cards they’re interested in picking up. You’ve literally got to keep both eyes and your mind wide open while to you play this game.

When you’ve got all your cards in acceptable groups, you place or request what is called a Show. The process of presenting your cards in the groups you’ve formed is called Melding (See? Not Rocket Science at all!). If you’ve got the best possible combination among your opponents, you win. And here’s the most fun part – your opponents are saddled with points totaling the value of those they’re left with.

So there you have it, Rummy Basics in a nutshell. You might want to give it a go online – we recommend Taj Rummy Games. All the best, and remember what it is not… (Rocket Science!)
